Victoria continues dominance at Age Nationals

Published Wed 17 Apr 2019

The Victorian team has again displayed fantastic performances during Day 3 of the Age Australian Diving Championships in Perth.

Our young at heart athletes, Rohan Blake (PLC) and Pamela Downing (Whitehorse) added to their medal haul with a gold and silver medal in the 50+ mens and womens 1m event respectively.

Catherine Ives (Ringwood) and Zoe August (MelAm) performed strongly in the 19/24 womens 1m event, as did Sarah Gardner (Whitehorse) in the 25/34 womens 1m springboard. Reuben Roessler (Ringwood) continued with his consistent performances across the championships, securing a gold medal in the 19/24 mens 1m event!

Earlier in the day, Leyanna Brown (Ringwood) and Kiara Field (Bendigo) managed to keep their composure in a very strong field of competitors and were awarded for their performances with a gold medal to Leyanna and a bronze medal to Kiara in the 12/13 girls 3m event. Other Victorian athletes in this event included Ella Bailey (MEDA), Grace Jacobs (Whitehorse) and Penelope Waymark and Adelle Schambre Nickless (Ringwood) - all young ladies showcasing their very best diving skills!

The slightly more experienced girls competing in the 14/18 years 3m synchro saw partners Abby Rowley (MelAm) and Grace Barrett (NSW) secure the gold medal, closely followed by Victorian duo of Madison Moore and Piper Bennett (Ringwood) finishing in 2nd place and being awarded with the silver medal. There were an additional 8 synchro partnerships in this event involving Victorian athletes, which highlights not only the popularity of this event but more importantly the depth of Victorian talent.

The good news story of the day was again the magnificent performances of our young men across a number of events. In the 12/13 boys platform, Edward Lee (St Kevins) claimed the silver and Hamish Bottrell (Ringwood) claimed the bronze medal, whilst in the 14/15 boys 3m event Xavier Cox (St Kevins) and Zach Hutchings (Ringwood) won gold and bronze respectively. Other strong performers in 14/15boys 3m event included Riki Lethbridge (PLC); Oliver Verner, Timothy O'Connell and Brodie O'Connel (St Kevins); Nathan Brown (Ringwood) and Thomas Anastasiou (MEDA) showing that the future of Victorian diving is looking bright for our boys.

With the podium finish yesterday in the boys 16/18 years 3m, Luca Jarvis (Slipstream), Josh Herrington and Ryan King (St Kevins) were again the boys to beat in the 16/18 years 1m - sweeping the podium with gold, silver and bronze!

The final day of competition starts tomorrow morning and the Victorian team look well positioned to claim the remaining medals available for the championships. Stay tuned to our social media updates on:
