St. Kevin’s College Centenary Celebrations
On Wednesday April 18th, St. Kevin’s Aquatic Club diving coach Elizabeth Howard was honoured for her work in Diving at the College over the last ten years. Elizabeth was named both Team Of the Century Diving Coach and Teacher in Charge of Diving at a dinner to the celebrate 100 years of sport during the College’s Centenary year.
In addition, two divers were named: Scotia Mullin (SKC 2015) and James Montgomerie (SKC 2012). Scotia is currently on a Diving Scholarship in the USA and James is now coaching at Scotch College. It was acknowledged that St Kevin's has won the Diving APS trophy every year since 2010. These are all years under Elizabeth’s coaching and unmatched in any other APS Sport at St Kevin's.
During the evening, Elizabeth was specifically singled out by Stuart Powell, Director of Sport at Scotch College, as one of the most outstanding coaches he has seen across the APS. He said the program she has developed at St Kevin's is second to none and is the envy of all APS schools.
The vast majority of boys started Diving at SKC without any previous experience in diving or gymnastics. They start with a pin drop and very quickly progress to hold their own not only at APS but at National level. This was evident in the high number of boys represented in the Pacific School Games last year and the upcoming Age Nationals.
The St Kevin’s College Team of the Century dinner was attended by many sports people of all ages across 14 sports including Olympic and Commonwealth Games representatives, current and past AFL players and coaches, Australian representative cricketers, tennis players, soccer and rugby players, swimmers and track and field athletes.
