Gold, Silvers and Bronze!
Day 1 of the Austraian Elite Junior Diving Cahmpionships (Brisbane, QLD)
In a new format this year, the Group A and Group B divers competed in a morning Preliminary and afternoon Final. In the Final, scores from their "restricted" dives came forward and the unlimited dives were competed again.
For the A Boys 1 metre, Lachlan Cronin bettered his 3rd place Preliminary finish to capture Silver in the event. Bailey Cronin and Hudson Skinner held fast to their 4th and 5th places.
In the A Girls 3 Metre, PLC Aquatic diver Anna Hachmann bettered her preliminary score by 8 points but unfortunately slipped out of 3rd into a 5th place final finish. Natlaie Phan and Ashleigh Meneses both bettered their preliminary scores in the finals too finishing 6th and 8th respectively.
Our B Divers came out strong on Platform. Melbourne Elite Diving Academy diver Rose Blackhall finished with a Silver, averaging an impressive 60 points per dive in the finals. Ringwood Diving Club diver Olivia Roche increased her preliminary score slightly finishing 5th overall.
In the Junior C events - there were no second chances as they dove a straight final. In our Junior C Boys 1 Metre event, Ringwood Diving Club diver Benjamin Wilson took home the Bronze with Melbourne Elite Diving Academy diver Jonah Merceica finishing 5th.
The highlight of the day was a Gold medal in the Junior C Girls 3 Metre event where Stella Forsyth battled to the top of the leader board in a huge field of 16 divers. Charli Petrov narrowly missed out on a bronze finishing a strong 4th less than a point back from 3rd. Also competing for Victoria were Lucy Dovison (6th), Adeline Burt (9th), Jacqui Nolan (13th), Giselle Eng (14th) and Sienna Cushen (16th).
The Junior D divers had the day off, but are in action Friday-Sunday.
What a great start to the championships...
