Day 2 - Age Nationals
Published Tue 16 Apr 2019
Another amazing day in the diving pool for our young Victorian athletes at Age Australian Diving Championships!
Our smallest competitor Lana Renieris (Whitehorse) displayed some brilliant diving and secured the bronze medal in the 11/U girls 1m springboard, with Jemima Foster and Summer Zhu also showing strong personal performances in the event.
Kiara Field (Bendigo) continued from where she left off yesterday and dominated the platform event in the 12/13 girls age group - her ultimate reward being the gold medal! Victoria was well represented in this event with Grace Jacobs and Ella Bailey also competing strongly. The success continued in the 14/15 girls 3 m event with Sabine Keenan being crowned as silver medalist in a very strong field including Caitlin Murphy, Lea Malina and Edie Mitra (PLC); Ella McDermott and Chloe Delzoppo (Ringwood) and Mia Osler (MEDA).
The final girls event highlighted exactly why Abby Rowley (MelAm) has been identified as the "diver to beat" in these championships - her outstanding performance rewarded with a gold medal in the 16/18 girls 1m springboard event. In a field encompassing 10 other Victorian athletes including Natasija Voulanas and Katlyn Farmer (PLC); Madison Moore, Caitlin Westcott, Piper Bennett, Billie Sheehan and Natasha Matters (Ringwood); Mia Robinson and Claire Lumsden (Whitehorse) and Amy Kenny (Slipstream); the competition was red hot.
However the standout performances of the day belonged to our young men!
In the boys 12/13 event on 1m springboard, Jordan Youssef and Edward Lee (St Kevins) secured gold and silver medals respectively, with Hamish Bottrell and Darcy Phelan (Ringwood) also competing well. Zach Hutchings (Ringwood) was awarded with a gold medal and Riki Lethbridge (PLC) secured third place with a bronze medal in the 14/15 boys platform event, whilst the biggest news event of the day went to the 16/18 boys 3m springboard event with Victorian athletes sweeping the podium - gold to Luca Jarvis (Slipstream), silver to Josh Herrington and bronze to Ryan King (both from St Kevins)!
What a huge day for all our young athletes - we look forward to seeing more magnificent performances across Day 3!
