Age Nationals – Day 2 Competition (Friday 15/4).
Geoff Gedge
Day 2 was another very competitive day in the pool for Team Victoria.
The first event for the day was the combined Boys U11 3m spring and Boys 12/13 1m spring. We had no competitors in the Boys U11 3m spring. The top places in the Boys 12/13 1m spring were taken out by WA and NSW. Josh Herington performed well to come in a close 4th with Ryan King not far behind in 5th place. Luka Simic completed the event with a solid 7th place out of a field of 11 divers.
Our second event was the hotly contested Girls 12/13 platform with 17 divers. Again Team Victoria were beaten by NSW and QLD for the top spots, but Piper Bennett (7th), Isobelle Brosnahan (8th), Caitlin Westcott (8th) and Holly Kenealy (9th) all dived well. Zoe Adam-Gedge completed the group at 13th place.
Boys 16-18 3m spring and Girls U11 1m spring were run in unison. Cooper Reid took out the top spot in the Boys 16-18 3m spring, with SA coming in second and Marc Jencik making a solid 3rd place. Jordan Thein was a close 4th and Chris Harris came in at 6th. Well done boys.
The Girls U11 1m spring was Team Victoria all the way. Kiara Field (1st), Olivia Roche (2nd) and Lea Malina (3rd). What a great effort!
Team Victoria did not field any competitors in the Boys 14/15 platform.
After lunch a big field joined to contest the Girls 14/15 3m spring (25 divers) and the Girls 16-18 1m spring. Abby Rowley took 1st place in the girls 14/15 3m spring, with Amy Kenny a close 2nd. Billie Bennett came home in 4th place. Good efforts from Elise Marcun (7th), Sophie Westcott (8th), Hanna Vlamis (9th), Jenna Healy (10th), Anjali Jackson (11th), Matilda Baker (12th), Darcy Furman (16th), Emily Foord (19th) and Paris Hefford (23rd).
The Girls 16-18 1m spring was another large group of 16 competitors. WA and NSW took out the top 2 places with Ellyse Byrne placing 3rd. Sophia James took a solid 7th place and Courtney Gow completed the event in 12th.
The final event for the day was 19+ Men’s and Women’s mixed synchro 3m spring. There were some very amusing dives performed by this group. However, the top 2 places were taken out by QLD and WA with Corey Bruno and his partner taking 3rd place.
Well done Team Victoria on your Day 2 results!
